Fiji Sun Friday 04 August 2017 The chairperson of the Coral Coast chapter of the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association, Peter Hopgood, and members applaud the decision by Government to impose the 10-cent plastic bag levy.
He said hopefully shoppers would start to take their own reusable shopping bags to reduce the number of plastic bags in the environment.
“We have been lobbying Government for the past five years to get rid of plastic bags in our local township of Sigatoka,” he said. “The imposition of the levy is heading in the right direction.”
In the coming months the Coral Coast hoteliers will be distributing reusable shopping bags to all of the school children in the province of Nadroga/ Navosa.
“We have re-launched our “No Plastic – That’s Fantastic” campaign and we are also currently undertaking competitions for the Cleanest School and Cleanest Village in the province of Nadroga/Navosa,” he said. Read more…
