Join us at HOTEC 2026 for the Industry Information Series—four practical sessions designed to help tourism businesses understand and prepare for the changes shaping Fiji’s tourism sector.
Covering the regulatory environment, emerging tourism standards, workforce and community value, and business resilience, the sessions will translate the priorities of the National Sustainable Tourism Framework into practical issues for industry management. Participants will hear from relevant agencies and specialists, explore real operational scenarios, ask questions, and leave with useful guidance and tools to support planning, compliance and continuous improvement.
The four sessions, over the two days will cover the following:
Day 1 – Thursday 22nd October, 2026
Session 1: The Regulatory Reset
What Fiji’s changing rules mean for tourism businesses
TST, CUMA, the Employment Relations Act and VMS are already generating important operational questions for tourism businesses, while changes relating to tourism regulation, liquor licensing and the security industry may also affect the sector. This session will focus on what has changed, what is coming, what businesses need to do and where industry still needs clarification.
Session 2: From Framework to Business Practice
Getting ready for Fiji’s tourism standards
What will the National Sustainable Tourism Framework and emerging Fiji Tourism Standards actually mean at business level? This session will move beyond policy and look at the systems, records, practices and evidence tourism businesses should begin putting in place — from legal compliance and sustainability management to staff training, reporting and continuous improvement.
Day 2 – Friday 23rd October, 2026
Session 3: People, Place & Local Value
Stronger workforces, supply chains and community partnerships
Sustainable tourism is also about where tourism’s benefits go. This session will explore practical approaches to workforce development, local employment, local procurement, community partnerships, culture and the development of authentic tourism experiences that benefit both businesses and communities.
Session 4: Resilience Pays
Reducing cost, climate risk and environmental impact
Energy, water, waste, climate risk and business continuity are increasingly commercial issues as much as environmental ones. This session will look at practical ways tourism businesses can reduce operating costs, strengthen resilience, measure resource use and identify opportunities for sustainable investment.
