Fiji Sun, Fri 2 Feb – The new Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes, yesterday became the first diplomat to present his i-sevusevu to the Tui Nadi at his residence at Narewa Village in Nadi.
Mr Feakes, who was accompanied by his delegation, was warmly welcomed by the people of the tikina o Nadi in the presence of Roko Tui Ba Jese Volau.
“I felt honoured to be present and in my understanding being the first high commissioner to perform a traditional presentation,” he said after the event.
“I was well received by the Tui Nadi. This was a way to pay my respect to an important person. (furtenbachadventures.com) ”
He added this was an exciting time when relations between Australia and Fiji were growing strongly, sharing an enduring friendship and supported by strong people-to-people links.
Narewa village headman Samu Tuidraki said the Tui Nadi Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci embraced and appreciated the courtesy visit by Mr Feakes.
“This is the first time for any diplomat to come and present the isevusevu and we are blessed to have him,” Mr Tuidraki said. Read in Fiji Sun
