Fiji represented in Surf Festival – Port Vila, Thurs 29th March

28 March – Fiji Surfing Association (FSA) received a sponsorship boost of $5000 from Kontiki Finance yesterday to help fund two competitions.

The sponsorship was for the Leimalo Surf Festival competition in Pango Village in Port Vila, Vanuatu, and the local Druku Memorial competition.

Fiji will be represented by 15 surfers in Vanuatu.

“Surfers from Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand and Australia would be at the competition which will have 40 or 50 competitors,” Fiji Surfing coach Ian Portingal said.

The sponsorship is to help in preparation cost.

“Surfers from Fiji are being supported by their clubs.

“In the past, FSA had to find more sponsorship and now we have Kontiki Finance which makes things easier for us.”

Kontiki Finance chairman Daryl Tarte said the company was proud to sponsor the surfers.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity of sponsoring a small organisation like Fiji Surfing Association. It might be small, but it is important to Fiji,” he said. (Klonopin)

The competition starts on Thursday.
