SUMMARY:Coral Bleaching in Fiji 2023: Understanding Resilience and Adaptation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an insightful webinar on the current state of coral bleaching in Fiji\, presented by Helen Sykes\, an expert in Resort Support and Marine Ecology. In May 2023\, we will explore the alarming trends in global temperatures\, as reported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)\, and its impact on Fiji’s marine ecosystem. \nAccording to recent NOAA data\, April 2023 ranked as the fourth warmest April on record\, with global ocean temperatures reaching a record high. We will examine the implications of rising water temperatures on coral reefs\, particularly focusing on Fiji’s last major coral bleaching event that occurred from 2000 to 2002. During this event\, average water temperatures above 29°C for more than 56 days resulted in widespread coral death across Fiji. \nBy analyzing temperature loggers and changes in average summer water temperatures\, we will uncover the alarming rise in water temperature by 0.4°C since the early 2000s. NOAA Coral Reef Watch has been actively issuing Bleaching Alerts\, which we will explore in detail\, highlighting the predictions and subsequent events related to bleaching likelihood in Fiji during 2023. \nSurprisingly\, recent in-water temperature logger data from Beqa shallow reef has shown that the corals have defied expectations. Despite the prolonged exposure to temperatures that historically would have resulted in significant coral mortality\, the corals have adapted and resisted mass death. We will discuss this fascinating adaptation and the role of “Day-Glo” or bright colours\, which new research suggests may be corals evolving to protect themselves after losing zooxanthellae algae. \nFor divers planning to visit Fiji\, we will provide valuable information on the resilience of Fiji’s coral reefs. While 20 years ago\, most corals did not survive long-term temperatures over 29°C\, they are now displaying resistance to temperatures approximately half a degree higher. Corals that exhibit “Day-Glo” colours are adapting and have a higher chance of surviving prolonged exposure to warmer water. \nThis webinar aims to raise awareness about the real and impactful effects of climate change on coral reefs worldwide. We are fortunate that Fiji possesses highly resilient corals that are adapting to warming waters. To support the conservation of these special reefs\, we encourage divers and enthusiasts to sign an online petition urging policymakers to value and protect these 50 globally important reefs. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into the current state of coral bleaching in Fiji and understand the importance of conservation efforts. Register now and join us for an engaging discussion on Fiji’s coral reefs\, climate change\, and the potential for resilience and adaptation in the face of adversity. \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Global Food Security & Sustainability Virtual Summit 2021
DESCRIPTION:About\nThe Global Food Security & Sustainability Virtual Summit 2021 “Towards A Future Safe Global Food System” 17 September 2021 \nOverview\nThe Global food system is at a critical stage and made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. As many as 265 million people are threatened by famine\, up 50% on last year; 700 million suffer from chronic hunger; and 2 billion more from malnutrition\, with obesity and associated diet-related diseases increasing in all world regions. During the height of the pandemic with lockdowns\, we have witnessed the collapse of the global food system with reports of food producers resorting to dumping their produce. The food crisis faced during the pandemic is a wake-up call for both developed and developing countries of the looming crisis facing the world when the next major crisis hits us\, be it climate change\, pandemics etc. \nAlthough the world has progressed significantly in terms of technological advancements in food production\, food is not distributed in an equitable manner to regions\, countries\, households and individuals. Government policies\, availability of investments and technological know-how and improved access to food supplies are key issues that meet the urgent food needs of the world’s growing population. New and innovative farming technologies such as high-tech agriculture and aquaculture methods that produce more yields inland and urban conditions offer hope for the future. \nThe Global Food Security & Sustainability Virtual Summit 2021 held on the 26 to 27 August 2021\, would be one of the most important events ever held to address the critical issues of food security from the local level to the global level\, and from an interdisciplinary and systemic food systems perspective. The summit will invite multi-stakeholders from governmental organisations\, private sector businesses and NGOs to address the current disruptions and possible solutions on the world food supply chain. Discussions will also include issues surrounding sustainability issues and how societies and businesses can design more sustainable solutions in their entire food chain to minimize impact to the environment and reduce food waste. \nSee you at this landmark event. \nTopics: \nGeneral Issues \n\nFood security And The Sustainable Development Goals- Addressing Food Security\, Improved Nutrition and Sustainable Agriculture By 2030.\nWorld Food Supply Chain: Disruptions And Implications From Covid-19.\nCOVID-19 Has Caused Food Insecurity To Worsen\, But Will Climate Change Be Much Worse?\nCreating A Sustainable & Inclusive Food System.\nCritical Actions To Redesign The Future Of Food In 2021.\nThe Importance Of Revaluing Food And Food System Workers.\nHow To Incentivise Food Systems To Meet The Realities Of The 21st Century.\nStrengthening Sector Policies For Better Food Security And Nutrition Results.\nFood Laws And Regulations: Improving Efficiency And Transparency In Food Safety Systems.\n\nThe Role of Technology \n\nArtificial Intelligence For Food Security – Robotics\, Computer Science\, Cybersecurity\, Information\nSecurity And Engineering For Farms Of The Future.\nCreating A World Food Chain Monitoring System – A Much Needed Solution?\nRefocusing Agri-Food Tech To Solve Today’s Critical Problems – The Task Of Feeding 10 billion People By 2050 Sustainably\, Affordably And Nutritionally.\nThe Impact of Data-Driven Technologies In Food Systems – The Use Of Technology To Produce And Conserve Nutritious Food\, Improve Food Quality And Supply.\nAgriculture sector: Preparing For Disruption In The Food Value Chain.\nIs Urban Farming A Viable Solution To Assuring Food Security In Asia?\nFood Supply Chain Optimization And Value Creation Through Digital And Analytical Technologies.\n\nReducing Food Waste \n\nFood Security And Waste: Lessons From The Pandemic.\nReducing Food Waste Across The Supply Chain: From Retailers To Consumers. SUMMARY:Evaluating the role of risk management for infrastructure projects
DESCRIPTION:This webinar deals with risk from a commercial and contractual position within joint ventures and PPPs. It identifies the value of the ‘clause by clause’ risk assessment and risk apportionment and acceptance. \nDealing with the subject of risk attribution as it relates to project SPR’s this webinar would attract an audience involved in bidding and tendering within complex transactional designs where project staging also adds complexity to managing risk. \nThis webinar would be useful for senior executives and managers who are involved in major projects domestically.
